Girls Jumps The girls high jump is loaded with talent this year, as 8 of the 11 state finalists are returning this season. Leading the pack is Claire Kieffer-Wright of South Pasadena, who has a PR of 6-0 from her victory at Mt. Sac Relays. Though she had a disappointing state meet and was eliminated early, she cleared 5-10 or better at five different meets including Arcadia, where she tied two other jumpers for the top spot. Madeline Fagan of Los Gatos enters the season with a 5-10.75 PR which she notched in winning the Stanford Invitational. She also won at K-Bell, CCS Top 8 Classic, and was part of that 3-way tie for the Arcadia win. Alex Florent of Harvard-Westlake and Maciah Murry of Edison (Fresno) both have 5-10 PRs coming into the season. Florent registered her 5-10 PR at the state meet, earning second place honors, while Murry got hers at the Central Section North Area Champs - and has wins at West Coast Relays and Reedley Invitational as well. Finally I want to go five deep in my commentary this time and mention Erinn Beattie of Buena, who finished third at the CIF State Finals. Erinn improved coming down the final stretch of the outdoor season, hitting PRs when they counted most: at Southern Section CIF Finals and Masters where she hit her PR of 5-09.
High Jump Top Returners
Long Jump Courtney Corrin of Harvard-Westlake is the defending state champion and won every long jump competition she entered last year until she reach the World Youth Championships, where she finished 5th. All this as a freshman in high school. Courtney is the top return in the country, with a 21-0 PR from the USATF World Youth Trials last July, which is also a national freshman record. The national sophomore record is "only" 21-01.5, so look for Corrin to challenge the mark this spring. Junior Margaux Jones of Redlands is Corrin's top challenger coming into the season, with a wind legal PR 20-02.75. She finished fourth in the CIF State Championships (#2 returner) and is the defending CIF SS D1 Champion. Junior MacKenzie Arnold of River Valley (SJS) is right on Jones' heels, with a PR of 19-11.75 from the CIF SJS Masters Meet. Finally, sophomore Rhesa Foster of Clovis North can't be counted out. Foster has a PR of 19-10.5, and was third in the State Finals as a freshman. Foster also won the Golden West Invitationl, the West Coast Relays, and the Central Section Masters Meet.

Long Jump Top Returners
Triple Jump Rian Young-Werner of Citrus Valley has the top PR coming off the 2013 outdoor season at 41-05.0. Young-Werner won the CIF Southern Section D2 Finals, the Inland Empire Championship, and was 7th in the CIF State Finals. Right with her, though, is Marisa Kwiatkowski of Wilcox, who grabbed fourth place at state last spring and is our top returner from the championshp meet. Kwiatkowski won at the CIF CCS Finals, the K-Bell Invitational, and the CCS Top 8 Classic. Her PR is 40-08.5 from 2013 outdoor, but has already jumped 41-02.75 at an all-comers meet last week! After our top two, there is a pack of jumpers in the 39 foot range, many of whom are sophomores and juniors. Look for a battle in the girls Triple again this spring.
