Great Oak is so good that they should really be running in the order of slowest to fastest. Their slowest athlete will still be up there with the leaders on leg one, but the company will allow them to run faster for the first two legs. Collins has proved she can run fast alone, so she is a good choice for the anchor. I think they can greatly improve on their performance at Arcadia!

I'm looking most forward to the girls 4x1600. Unless there is a disaster, the winner will break 20 and set the national record!!!!!!! Desert Vista seeded at 19:48 and Great Oak at 19:53 based on their best of 2015 marks (and that's with Collins just running 5:00)!

Desert Vista - add up of 2015 marks for 19:48
Danielle Jones 4:44
Amanda Davis 4:57
Baylee Jones 4:55
Haley Wolf 5:10

Great Oak has a deep team, - add up 2015 marks for 19:53
Destiny Collins 5:00 (10:54, but in 2014, 4:45 and 10:14 )
Kiyena Beatty 4:56
Sydney Belus 4:56 (10:57)
Evelyn Mandel 5:01 (10:55)

Saugus - add up of 2015 marks for 20:10
Ashley Heys 5:02
Sabrina Janes 4:55
Samantha Ortega 4:59
Mariah Castillo 5:14

Great analysis MatthewXCountry! Here is a story about Desert Vista and Dani Jones pursuing that history: http://www.dyestatca...&news_id=332913

Great job on the rankings in general as usual. Although I think Allie Ostrander should be #2. She was only 7 seconds ahead of Hofstad, so I understand the thought that she would repeat that margin over her at FLN, putting her a couple seconds in back of Frazier, but I think you have to credit her for actually winning the NXN race if it is close (which it is). I think someone could reasonably justify Ostrander in any spot #1- #3. Oh the shame of not having a true national championship!

what happened to Anoush Shehadeh? finished 4th at footlocker last year. did she run this year?
DougB
She did run for her school though never seemed to be at the same level that she was at last year. I believe that she had a nagging injury that limited her training. She did not run at the Foot Locker regional this year, instead running with her team at NXN Northeast, where Anoush finished 58th.
DougB
Agreed! Before I started I sort of assumed Ostrander would be 2 but then decided using Hofstad as the measuring stick was a reasonable thing to do. Same thing with the Hacker Factor on the boys side.

@Mike the girls are extremely deep. For example, look at #25 and #26. Belf is the US junior 5k champion in track with 4:45 speed. She has won a ton of XC meets this year and finished second in the NXN midwest regionals. Marissa Williams just set the 8th fastest time ever at Mt. Sac, arguably one of the most traversed courses in high school cross country and set the Pierce course record on her way to her third straight Los Angeles city section title. Note these ranking came out before the SS finals. Ortega is likely to fall out after losing to Graves and Gore. There are so many talented girls this year. I think Doug would agree that the top 40 or so girls are separated by maybe 15 seconds or so. Graham is great but so are others.

It was a tough week. Graham could be in that 25-30 range but so could a handful of others.
ILXCTF - Mike Newman
Lindsay Graham runs 16:23 at the Illinois State meet, the fifth fastest time ever on that course, and she is on the bubble? Wow.

@yoyobo All the girls on this list are great. My guess is that Doug would say that #1 and #30 are separated by less than 15 seconds! That is how deep the girls are this year. Ortega beat Williams head to head, so you can't really put Williams any higher than 20th. My guess is that Doug would say the difference between 20th and 28th is only about 1 or 2 seconds. It really is a big judgement call when comparing athletes across states. That is how good the girls are this year (8th best all time at mt. sac only gets you 28th spot in the rankings. In past years that kind of performance would get you a top 5 spot).

Devin Clark and Paige Hofstad's performance at the TX state meet was very impressive. Think back to all the top female runners from Texas in the past years and how they faired at FLNats/NXN... typically up there individually. Don't expect these two ladies to be any different, they are running incredibly well.

3rd-5th were behind by quite some margin and these are all ladies who have ran sub 11:00. (10:39 2-mile/10:46 3200, 10:37 3200, 10:52 3200. These three girls have been running faster than last season, so don't think it's simply a case of them being, "track runners". These two will definitely both be in the top 20 by the end of the season (although obviously I am expecting better results).

1 Devin Clark 12 Comal Smithson Valley 17:10.87
2 Paige Hofstad 11 New Braunfels 17:18.89
3 Julia Heymach 10 Houston Lamar 17:49.94
4 Ashton Endsley 10 Abilene 18:02.56
5 Abby Guidry 11 Humble Kingwood 18:06.47

Clark and Hofstad were very impressive at the Texas state meet. Looking forward to seeing how they do going forward.

Clark at 17 may be a little low, but now we have Stephanie Jenks to put back on the list ... and moving up starts to get a little tricky. The talent out there right now is pretty deep.

How high do you think she should be?

Keep in mind that she lost to the girl who his 26th on the list at Woodbridge. There will be some more adjustments, obviously, based on what happened this weekend.

Ashley Anderson won the indoor state title a few weeks ago with a 40-02.75. I think that is worth a mention.

Is it true that Paul left arguably the best girls hurdling program in the nation last year for Serra? Was the move for non-track related reasons? http://www.runnerspa...&video_id=84219 (would have been the national leader, but unfortunately they were DQed)

I'd like to point out that Marissa Williams's and Sarah Robinson's 3200 times are deceptively slow, as they both came while doubling back from the 1600 at the state meet. I'd say those two are the most likely challengers from the 6 at 10:30 or better (plus both had great XC seasons). All other athletes on the list have "fresh" 3200 PRs. Williams is the only athlete on this list who didn't run a fresh 3200 all season long. Hopefully she does so this year, because I think it's her better event.

Girls Distance Preview has been updated to include top XC performances, thanks to our readers feedback.
Not That Guy
Looks like you might want to add a few cross country standouts to at least the 3200 list:

Julia Maxwell and Fiona O'Keeffe were both injured last spring (so don't have strong 2013 track marks), but should be contenders. Also, Bethan Knights seems like she's poised for a breakthrough track season, based on her XC results. Julia Bounds won at Stanford XC as a freshman, but was injured/sick toward the end of XC - before high school she was a multiple-time track national USATF champion, so she may well be a factor.

That's interesting. I do warn that the LAS small schools division is a combined D3,4,5, and usually the winning team competes in its respective division at state. I'm not sure if this was ever in the handbook, due to the complexity.
Scott Joerger
Matthew - I'm not sure when the smaller division participants were eliminated, buit the current handbook definitely only specifies D1 participants. Here is the document: http://www.runnerspa...hp?file_id=1669

The small schools qualifiers from Los Angeles City Section seem to be missing, or have they done away with those?
